Year 2000 (Reasons to panic/Reasons not to panic)
Authors: Trevor Dahlen. Paperback, 21 pagesPublisher: Trevor Dahlen Publication Date: 1999-04-01 Reviews :

The real tragedy of Y2K will be taking it too seriously. Put down the millennium water jugs, gold bullion and porta-potties. Pick up a good book and laugh your way into the last year of the millennium. The jokes contained within are guaranteed Y2K compliant. Do not read this book...nor any maps, ingredients, fine print or mail order catalogues, while operating heavy machinery; it's just good sense. No GIGs, RAMs or BIOSs were hurt during the production of this comedic treatise. The writer is an actual Y2K project manager and stand-up comedian. If this tid bit of information makes you fear that the millennium problem will be much worse than you thought...don't worry. We've got it all under control!! Get one of the best reads of the year. The perfect Y2K gift! More portable than a remote cabin in the woods, and lighter than the remote control for your TV. The perfect item for anyone on your gift giving list; computer enthusiasts to Luddites, and everyone in between. Stay tuned for more humor in the future; notwithstanding the author's PC choking up on 12/31/99. Better make that 12/31/1999, just to be safe. These jokes combine references to computers and pop culture. Whether you like technology, or hate it, you'll love this book. The covers shown are the front and back of the book. You read the reasons to worry, then flip the book over, and read the reasons to be very afraid. The book measures 3"x6" and is 21 pages long....

Internet for Cats
Authors: Judy Heim. Alan Okamoto. Paperback, 224 pagesPublisher: No Starch Press Publication Date: 1996-10-01 Edition: 1 Reviews :
Internet for Cats will give your precocious felines everything they need to prowl the information highway. They'll learn how to trample keyboards, use cat ESP on gopher servers, take control of a mouse, and send other cats spicy e-mail. Plus you'll learn how YOU can find your way to all the coolest cat stuff on the Internet....

Back in the golden days (pre-1990), Internet books were deadly serious tomes filled with lists of line-mode FTP commands, hair-splitting essays on why BITNET was not part of the Internet, appendices filled with lists of RFCs and the contact phone numbers for hooking up your large university to one of the 13 NSFNet sponsored regional networks. Dialup providers were non-existent, and so were Net-humor books. And then one day, a book of Smileys (those little ASCII faces like >:-{) was released, and we old-timers were not amused. And in general, I have not been amused by so called "net-humor" books, and I was predisposed to not like Internet for Cats. But as soon as I opened this book, a contented smile came over my face, and I curled up into a little ball on a sofa and wished I had a kittis kattus to share it with. This is without doubt one of the most charming Net-humor books in existence. I loved it from beginning to end, and so will you. Four paws up!...
