Microsloth joke book (Berkeley Humor/Computers)
Authors: David Pogue. Paperback, 128 pagesPublisher: Berkley Trade Publication Date: 1997-12-01 Reviews :

Q: How many Microsoft programmers does it take to write a great piece of software? A: More. You've read all the headlines: Microsoft Bids to Acquire Catholic Church and Windows 95 Ushers in Era of World Peace. You've bought all the software--even took out a second mortgage to buy it. You've installed all 45 disks of the latest Word program. And you've made 45 tech support phone calls to get it to work. Now what? Cry? Give up? Before you go Microsoft in the head, try laughing instead! The Microsloth Joke Book ...offers countless megabytes of Easy Install humor that storms the Gates and smashes the Windows of the world's biggest software company. Includes hard-copy files on * Windows 95 horror stories from Shakespeare to Captain Kirk * Bill Gates at the Pearly Gates * the first-ever Microsloth infomercial drinking game * the ten DOS commandments * songs * light bulb jokes * and much more. No Installation Required! No RAM Required! Sense of Humor Version 4.0 or Higher Required ...

Who in computing doesn't like to pick on Microsoft now and then? (Other than Bill himself, that is.) Here's a book full of some of the funniest jabs ever thrown at the software giant. There are the classic forms, such as the light bulb jokes ("Q: How many Microsoft testers does it take to change a light bulb? A: We just notice that the room is dark. We don't fix the problems.") and standard stories. ("Bill Gates dies and sees St. Peter....") There are also riffs on popular culture ("What if Star Trek computers ran on Windows 95?"), spoofs of Microsoft press releases, a clever parody of Microsoft's marketing program written in the C programming language, and the story of Genesis told as if God were running creation on a PC. But Microsoft isn't the only company The Microsloth Joke Book pokes fun at. Intel rouses its share of laughs as well with the company's famous Pentium flaw. The book features a hysterical script based on 2001: A Space Odyssey where HAL runs with a Pentium chip. ("HAL: You must think I'm a fool, Dave. I know that two plus two makes 4.000001. Make that 4.0000001.") Although The Microsloth Joke Book is a slim volume, it's big on laughs....

The Joy of Smoking
Authors: Skip Morrow. Paperback, 58 pagesPublisher: The Ink Group Publication Date: 2000-09-01 Reviews :

The Joy of Smoking is a collection of humorous illustrations about smokers who will go to almost any lengths for a nicotine hit. The book succeeds in tickling the funny bones of smokers and non-smokers alike, as it broaches the subject of tobacco addiction. Instead of villifying or humiliating smokers, these images hilariously portray the stupidity of the habit in such a way that tobacco addicts can't help but laugh at themselves as they consider, or shall we say reconsider, their behavior. But smokers are not the only targets here--watch out tobacco media advertizers! The Joy of Smoking's non-verbal presentation appeals universally to people of all cultures and ages....
